Where to stay while studying abroad

Since you have chosen to study abroad, you will have to decide where do you want to stay, whether with a host family or in college's dorms. As you are new in foreign country, choose a calm and safe place this will help you concentrate on your studies.

Before you finalize the place to live, here are few things to be considered:

Will you be able to speak local language of the country where you are studying? Do you want good ambience as well as learning environment? Will you be interested in keeping in touch with other students who are studying abroad? Ask yourself whether you are willing to learn new culture and experience.
If you are planning to study abroad, staying in dorms is a preferable choice. One positive thing about a dorm is that you get an opportunity to interact with culturally different students from all over the world. It is also possible while staying with a host family however you might not be able to mix up. Another reason for which you should choose to stay in a college's dorm is that you will have more freedom. You can live according to your choice without much restriction.

If you are willing to learn local language of the country you are studying, staying outside college's campus is advised otherwise if you choose to stay in college dorms, chances are that you might have to share the room with a student belonging to your country. One big drawback of staying in college dorms is that you will have to eat at campus canteens and will have to buy own food.

Living with host families has many benefits. Firstly, you can learn local language of the country because family members will always discuss everything in their mother tongue. You will get home-made meals as well as you will get closer to the culture and customs of the country.

If you are not fluent in local language of the country, you might face difficulties to exchange your views with others. If you are staying with a host family, you will have to follow their curfews and rules. If your college is at a far distance, you may have to travel a lot.

Always think thrice before you choose a place to stay. You should decide to stay in the place that appeals to you the most.
